Asia splits into two budgets. Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Indonesia still run on $30 a day with private rooms and street food; Japan, Singapore and South Korea have moved into European territory. November to March is the dry window for most of Southeast Asia, while Japan is best in April or late October. India is the cheapest big country in Asia to travel well in, with palace hotels and sleeper trains that make its budget range stand apart.
